Frequently asked questions

Who can join?

Anyone aged 18 or over in the UK can join.
Membership is open to individuals, businesses, and supporters

Is this a subscription or a donation?

It’s a membership subscription.
You’re not donating — you’re joining a community movement, with rights to take part in member-only competitions and updates.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. You can cancel your membership at any time before your next monthly payment date.

Do I pay right now?

No.
Right now, we’re in a pledge stage only.
You’re simply reserving your spot.
No money will be taken until launch (planned April 2026).

Who rents the homes?

We rent to families at Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates, giving them fair, secure housing without inflated rents.  Members Only.

Can tenants buy the home they rent?

Yes.
After 3–5 years, tenants are offered the chance to buy at a radically reduced cost
covering only the legal and transfer costs, plus any capital gains tax owed by the Club.

How do you choose which charities to support?

We start with seven Blackpool charities, then expand to other towns and cities based on:

  • Where members live

  • Local need

  • Transparent voting by members

Who owns the Club?

Nobody “owns” it.
The People’s Housing Club is a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG)
a not-for-profit with no shareholders and no profits paid out.

All money is reinvested into:

  • Buying homes

  • Supporting members with prizes

  • Helping local communities

How much does it cost?

  • Individuals: £12 per month (VAT included)

  • Businesses/Supporters: £24+ per month (VAT included)

The money is split transparently between housing, prizes, operations, and community support.
See Where Your Money Goes for a full breakdown.

How will payments work when you launch?

When we go live, you’ll get an email with:

  • Your chosen payment options (Direct Debit, card, etc.)

  • Confirmation of your membership benefits

  • A reminder that you can cancel anytime

Why is VAT included?

The law requires VAT to be charged on membership subscriptions.
By including it in the £12 price, we make sure the full amount is clear and upfront, with no surprise add-ons.

What kind of homes do you buy?

We buy turnkey properties ready to rent, rated EPC C or above wherever possible.

These are family homes, not new builds or fixer-uppers.

Will you ever build new houses?

No.
We focus on buying and renting existing properties.

How do you help the homeless?

A fixed portion of every membership goes to local food banks and homelessness charities. When one area’s charities reach their target, we move to the next region — spreading support as membership grows.

How do I know where my money goes?

We publish monthly reports showing:

  • Total memberships

  • Number of homes bought

  • Prizes awarded

  • Donations made

Absolute transparency is central to how we operate.

What if the Club doesn’t raise enough to launch?

If we don’t reach the minimum number of pledges by April 2026, we will keep going until Sept 2026 and review the plan.
